What is Micropigmentation?
Micropigmentation is referred to as permanent makeup or cosmetic tattooing. Cosmetic tattoo is an ancient art form. Thanks to new techniques and the evolution of the industry and equipment it is more natural and realistic than ever. Josephine simulates hair stroke brows, beautiful lash and lip enhancements by using state of the art digital machines. Permanent cosmetics is meant to augment your natural beauty and to simplify your daily beauty routine.
Is micropigmentation right for me?
During your consultation ask your practitioner if you are a good candidate for the procedure. For some it may not be the best option, if you are an avid sun tanner, considering facial reconstructive surgery or have a chronic medical challenge it may not be for you. Josephine will go over these questions and more with you during your consultation. As with any procedure which invades the skin there are potential risks and benefits.
What to expect
Permanent makeup results vary depending on your body chemistry, lifestyle and family background. Every client heals differently. The follow up appointment is essential to assess your healing and color retention. Most clients are satisfied with the initial procedure and follow up. On occasion there are some clients that may require additional touch up appointments. Depending upon the nature of your skin, results are not guaranteed.
Is it painful?
While any tattoo procedure will have some measure of discomfort we are able to use high quality topical anesthetics prior to and during the procedure, to ensure our clients will be as comfortable as possible. Each client’s pain tolerance is different. We make every effort to keep you comfortable. Most clients feel little to no pain.
Is it permanent?
Semi-permanent is a better description, it may never be completely gone. The type of ink Josephine uses is different from traditional body tattooing ink, it is meant to fade over time. The iron oxide (a naturally occurring mineral) in this ink will be naturally absorbed over time by your body. The benefit of the absorption is that it allows for small changes to be made over time as desired. For some clients the ink may disappear completely for others there may always be some residual ink. Once your follow up procedure is finished and healed most clients will need a refresh session anywhere from 1-3 years. Refresh appointments have a lower price only when the original procedure is performed by Josephine.
Preparing for your procedure
It is a good idea to shower and shampoo your hair prior to your appointment to avoid having to do so right afterwards. Getting some rest and hydration the day before is helpful. If you normally have your brows waxed or threaded, have them done at least 48 hours prior to your brow appointment. Postponing any sunny vacations for at least two weeks after, as well as any major public events for at least one week after are good ideas. Come to your appointment wearing your normal makeup especially your brows. Avoid lash and brow tinting, facials and any skin treatment 2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks after. Avoid using Lastisse 2 weeks before 2 weeks after.
The first 24 hours after your brow procedure you will leave the area alone, if you need to shower or wash your face you must do so carefully to avoid water on the area. If you have any concerns or questions you can always call or email me throughout your healing process. We give you an instruction sheet to take home, plus a small care package. Initial healing time is about 7 days; the final healed outcome is visible in 4-6 weeks. Your follow up procedure is booked at least 4-6 weeks in advance. This is a crucial to achieve your final results. We will see how your skin has healed as well as your color retention. Adjustments will be made after you heal from the second procedure. We must see what the final outcome is.
Long term care
Avoid exfoliating skin care products like retinol and glycolic acid around and on the brow area. Keeping the area covered with a high SPF on a daily basis. Excessive sun exposure does cause tattoos to fade. IMPORTANT things to remember too advise your MRI technicians you have a cosmetic tattoo, also advise the technician for any laser treatments that you have a cosmetic tattoo as the laser could cause it to darker or discolor if not properly protected. Always come in for your follow up appointment and regular touch ups as needed.
